Tennessee's Gateway Testing Initiative
Tennessee's Gateway Testing Program
Johnson County's End-of-Course/Gateway Test Policy
To raise the academic bar for all high school students and add accountability for students' academic performance, Tennessee has adopted a new testing proposal for end-of-course tests in key subjects. Starting with entering freshmen in 2001-02, students must pass three of these tests -- English II, Algebra I and Biology -- before graduation to earn a high school diploma.
To prepare for this series of testing, teachers and administrators in Johnson County are focusing on curriculum alignment in core subjects though mapping, vertical teaming of teachers, and cross-curricular communication between teachers.

Gateway Tests Item Samplers
The Gateway Item Samplers contain examples of the different item types for each Performance Indicator that may be tested in any given Gateway test administration. The Performance Indicators have been grouped into the Reporting Categories which will be used to report the student performances on the actual Gateway Tests. An answer key is provided at the end of each Sampler. The Item Samplers may be printed from the website.
