Highlights of Johnson County Schools

The system has 180 teachers and administrators with 54% or 101 of them having a Master's degree, Education Specialist's degree, or a Doctorate degree. The average teachers' salary (excluding administrators) is $30,485. An additional 188 Education Support Personnel are employed full time by the school system. The entire annual payroll is well over $8 million.

All school buildings have 100mb networks installed, high speed Internet access, and local web and application servers. All classrooms are connected to the Internet, and staff members have e-mail.

362,340 miles are traveled annually by our buses transporting students to and from school. This does not include field trips or any other extra-curricular activities.

Approximately 390,000 lunches and 175,000 breakfasts are served annually to students.

The aquaculture and hydroponics vocational programs have received state and national recognition.

Guidance counselors are available to all students K-12.

Five full-time nurses serve the medical needs of the students.

Our county's students are served by five K-6 elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Additionally, four of the five elementary's serve Pre-K students.

All schools have partnerships with business and industries.

Before-and-After school childcare in available as well as all-day childcare for 0-3 year-olds.

The CHARACTER COUNTS! Program is implemented in every school.

AP courses, dual enrollment, and articulation agreements with two area community colleges, Northeast State and Virginia Highlands, are available in appropriate high school courses.

The system boasts of an elementary principal selected to the Tennessee Teacher Hall of Fame, a vocational teacher selected to the All USA Teacher First Team, and a music teacher who has performed at Carnegie Hall.
